Japanese medical insurance system and foreigners.
Foreigners staying in Japan will join Japanese public medical insurance if they meet certain requirements. Japanese call the standard medical insurance system as “Kokuhho” or ”Kokumin Kenkou Hoken”.
There are several requirements for joining the standard medical insurance in Japan.
1. Status of residence for foreigner who will be staying in Japan legally for more than three months or
2. Status of residence as" Official Stuff" in Japan for more than three months or
3. Status of residence for foreigner who will be staying in Japan for more than three months in a certain condition. It means he/she has a visa status which not permitted to stay in Japan more than three months. Even in this case, if he/she has the certificate issued by the employer which written a schedule for the next three months that clarifies the residence place.
A certain condition is to satisfy one of the following.
3-1. Entertainment Status. The status means the foreigner who have a visa to try to perform activities related to theatrical performances, entertainment, songs, dances, performances of performances.
3-2. TIPP Status. The content of the Technical Internship Training Program is designed to enable foreign technical experts to make employment relationships with practitioners such as businesses and individual business owners in Japan and to acquire skills, proficiency and proficiency that are difficult to obtain in their country.
3-3. Family Stay Status. This is a visa that will allow his/her wife/husband and children to stay in Japan when his/her engaged in activities that operate revenue-generating activities or receiving compensation. This visa is not for your parent.

b. Activities conducted based on a contract with a public or private organization in Japan (an organization conducting business activities that meet the requirements provided for by a Ministry of Justice ordinance of contributing to the development of industries related to information processing (information processing prescribed in Article 2, paragraph (1) of the Act on Promotion of Information Processing (Act No. 90 of 1970); hereinafter the same shall apply) and which is an organization specifically designated by the Minister of Justice) of engaging in information-processing-related services which require technology and/or knowledge pertinent to natural science fields or human science fields at an office of such an organization (an office of the other organization in cases where he/she is dispatched to another organization by such an organization as a temporary worker as prescribed in Article 2, item (ii) of the Act on Ensuring Proper Operation of the Manpower Dispatching Business and Improvement of Working Conditions of a Temporary Worker (Act No. 88 of 1985)).
c. Daily activities on the part of the spouse or unmarried minor who is supported by the alien engaging in the activities listed in a. or b.
d. Activities other than those listed in a. to c.
